Instead, the actors re-recorded the first 20 minutes of dialog, softening their accents to atune American ears to the Scottish dialect.

Trivia - 2

There has been some confusion over the film’s title, as none of that particular activity actually takes place in the film (apart from Renton forced to stay inside his bedroom which has train-themed wallpaper).

Irvine Welsh has since gone on record to explain the title, stating that it started out as a euphemism for taking drugs (often done at a train station).

• evolve to ~: ‘~로 진화하다/발전하다’는 의미죠. 비슷하게는 develop, extend, expand 등이 있죠.
  • ex) When you try to experience a new thing or want to make unfamiliar hobby, it would be better to start small. As time passed, it will evolve to a bigger hobby naturally.
• obssesive: ‘강박적인’을 의미하죠. 약간 ‘집착’과 비슷한 의미이므로 fixation, preoccupation도 유사한 의미가 됩니다.
  • ex) Modern people tend to have something that they have an obsession with.
• i.e. : 라틴어인 ‘id est’에서 온 말로, ‘for example’과 동일합니다.
• pastime: ‘hobby’와 유사하지만, 이쪽은 약간 ‘심심풀이로 하는 취미’에 가깝습니다. 어떤 의미로는 ‘killing time’, ‘free time’과도 유사하게 느껴지죠. 즉, ‘시간이 나면 종종 하는 비교적 자연스럽게 하는 것들’을 의미합니다.
• make perfect sense: ‘말에 일리가 있다’라는 말입니다. 사실 ‘make sense’라고 하면 익숙한데 중간에 ‘perfect’가 하나 들어갔다고 낯설게 느껴지더라고요.

To play the skinny heroin-addicted Renton, Ewan McGregor lost 26 pounds. It took him only two months to reach Renton’s target size. He achieved this by grilling everything and by drinking wine and gin instead of beer.

Danny Boyle had his actors prepare by making them watch older movies about rebellious youths like The Hustler (1961), The Exorcist (1973) and A Clockwork Orange (1971).

The latter film is directly homaged in the scene set in the Volcano nightclub, which is very similar to that set in the Milk Bar in Stanley Kubrick’s film.
