영화 Social Network 명장면 - 나에게 집중하고 있나요

• 오늘은 영화 <소셜 네트워크>에서 주커버그가 계속 집중을 안 하고 있을 때, 집중 좀 해달라고 상대방 변호사가 말하니까, ‘나는 그럴 의무까지는 없는 걸로 아는데? 그리고 나 지금 다른 중요한 일 있어서 바빠’라고 응수하는 장면을 가져왔습니다. 실제로 주커버그가 저렇게 행동했는지는 잘 모르겠지만요. 물론 사람들은 영화에서는 그래도 쿨-한 찌질이로 나왔지만, 실제로는 그냥 그정도는 아니라고 하더군요.

Scene - Do I have your full attention

Gage: Mr. Zuckerberg, do I have your full attention?

• 주커버그 씨, 내가 당신에게서 충분한 관심을 받고 있나요?

Mark Zuckerberg: No.

• 아니요.

Gage: Do you think I deserve it?

• 당신은 내가 그정도의 관심을 받을 만하다고 생각하나요?
• deserve: ‘~받을 만하다’라는 의미를 가지죠. 긍정의 의미를 가지기도 하고, 부정의 의미를 가지기도 하죠. 즉, ‘상을 받을 만해’라고 쓰이기도 하지만, ‘벌을 받아야지’라고 쓰이기도 합니다.
  • ex) You deserve a long-time break because you had spent a hard-working time for about 14 years.

Mark Zuckerberg: What?

• 뭐라고요?

Gage: Do you think I deserve your full attention?

• 당신은, 제가 당신으로부터 충분한 관심을 받을만하다고 생각하시나요?

Mark Zuckerberg: I had to swear an oath before we began this deposition, and I don’t want to perjure myself, so I have a legal obligation to say no.

Mark Zuckerberg: I think if your clients want to sit on my shoulders and call themselves tall, they have the right to give it a try but there’s no requirement that I enjoy sitting here listening to people lie. You have part of my attention - you have the minimum amount.

• 만약 당신의 고객들이 내 어깨에 앉을 수 있고, 그들을 대단하게 부르게 하고 싶었다면, 그들은 이미 그 권리를 가지고 있었겠죠.

• condescending: ‘잘난 체 하는, 거들먹거리는’을 의미합니다.
  • ex) He is a two-faced man. When he was with unfamiliar woman, he tends to behave in condescending way.
